5 tips to prepare for a great engagement shoot
If you're sitting on the fence about having an engagement shoot, we totally recommend you go for it. This fun, low-stress photo session is like a wedding-day trial run, where you can perfect some flattering poses, try out some beauty looks and of course, celebrate your engagement.
Not only will you get some cute photos of you and your beau, an engagement shoot also helps you establish a relationship with your photographer so you begin to feel comfortable with them, and vice versa. So how can you best prepare for an engagement shoot to get a collection of images you love? We asked Arizona wedding photographer and Fine Art Curation member Troy Meikle to share her top tips.
Get your nails done
I can't recommend getting a fresh manicure enough! Neutral tones and pinky hues photograph beautifully and elevate your look in photos.
Have your wedding beauty trial
If you can arrange your wedding hair and make-up trial for the day of your engagement shoot, it's a must. It's a great time for you and your make-up artist and hair stylist to get to know one another, trial out some looks and just feel totally gorgeous for your photography session.
Include some props
Think about featuring some sentimental details or a fun prop in your session to help make you both feel more relaxed. For example, rent a vintage car, toast with champagne, or enjoy a picnic in a picturesque spot. Getting creative makes your session fun and unique.
Do a second look or second location
Make the most out of your session with two looks or locations. This way you can have lots of variety with an elevated and a more playful vibe. Consider both a casual look and a more dressy outfit, and a natural landscape and an architectural backdrop or a cityscape.
Have your ring cleaned
Ensure that beauty sparkles in your photos by getting it cleaned a day or two before the shoot.
