5 top tips for perfectly imperfect wedding hair
How do you imagine your hair on the big day? Neatly styled with not a hair out of place or more effortlessly undone? More and more brides are going for a relaxed and low-key look on their wedding day, a kind of off-duty Blake Lively style that looks absolutely stunning but like you have't tried too hard.
Of course, perfectly imperfect hair requires more work behind the scenes that you might think so we called in destination wedding hairstylist, Frank Giacone, to share his top tips to achieve this enviable effortless style. "It's important to start with a consultation with an expert so they can get to know your hair and suggest styles that compliment it, as well as your dress and overall look," explains Frank, an international hair stylist and Fine Art Curation member based in Italy.
1. For fine hair
I advise using booster products to add volume and texture where the hair lacks in thickness. Clip in extensions are also a great addition, to give amazing fullness and length. However it's very important to get the right color match so I always advise my brides to buy their extensions a few months in advance of the wedding to give plenty of time to change them if the shade isn't quite right.
2. For very thick hair
It's important not to create more volume that the hair all ready has so we I usually section the hair with elastics, which them makes it much easier to style into a relaxed style. I love to work with very light oils to relax the hair and give lustre.
3. For very straight hair
It’s so important to use styling tools to create texture, like hot irons and crimpers to give extra curl and hold. This helps massively to create natural up-dos or a cascades of soft waves. I also love working with dry shampoos or volume powders, which help give texture and create hold during the whole wedding day.
4. For Afro wedding hair
For Afro styles we love to work with soft hair oils to help reduce hair volume then style it into super effortless low buns or chignon styles. I also love the big Afro look. It's so stunning and editorial, especially if the brides looking for something a little more fashion forward and trendy.
5. Add texture and height
When looking to create texture and height, let’s say a high bun or ponytails, I cut a little bit from an up-do sponge accessory and tuck it into the style. This helps tuck the Bobby pins in and really grip to the style. It's such a useful and clever trick!
