Stylish Lifestyle Engagement Shoot in Iceland
We were lucky enough to head to the epic landscape of Iceland recently to co-host an industry workshop with the incredibly talented duo, Brumley & Wells alongside The Wells Makery, Siloh Floral and Faces By Liz. Surrounded by the land of ice and fire, it was the perfect place to create a stunning Wabi-Sabi inspired engagement session to show how you can use your sense of perfect imperfection and use the great outdoors as your backdrop... You can Shop This Look at the bottom of the post too (like this tie up bodysuit and these black leather booties that we're loving)!
From Brumley & Wells: "There’s a fine line between controlling beauty and allowing natural moments to unfold in real time. I find this to be true in all accounts of my creative process, whether I’m photographing on the streets of Cairo or on assignment for a campaign in Tuscany. Either way, I seem to be stretched between two opposing forces - reality (how I assume the world sees a particular moment) and fantasy (how I want the world to see that moment). Ironically, the fantasy seems to communicate something far more real about the human condition than what lies on the surface, and the depth of a story is told in realizing that tension, in framing an image to heighten the senses, in wakening the viewer to the cathartic tension between what is real and what is true. We wanted the Reckless North workshop to communicate that on a variety of levels."
"We were obviously given control of every aspect of the environment - our locations, color-pallet, models, attire. We hoped for the shoot to suggest something editorial-fashion but to maintain a strong sense of authenticity, to reflect the majestic beauty of the vast landscapes, but to pull the viewer in close and intimate. We wanted that balance. In many ways, the couple was reenacting what we were feeling all along when we designed the concept for the shoot, when we chose Iceland as our setting. It’s a philosophy we’ve been trying to live out in our daily lives - to control our fate but to leave room for spontaneity, to fill our lives with beauty, but to leave room in our hearts for new and unexpected beauties."
Come back next week where we continue our Iceland adventures with parts 2 and 3...
