Tips for a Relaxed and Beautiful Boudoir Session

Feb 16, 2016 | Planning

Alright ladies - we're discussing boudoir sessions! We are big fans of the classic, fine art, emotive styled boudoir sessions and constantly remind brides that less is not always more in this case. Boudoir doesn't have to mean exposed positions with revealing lingerie for all to see. We love the artistic side of them so today, with the help of stylist and planner Lindsey Zamora and Brett Heidenrecht Photography, we're giving our top five tips on a successful boudoir session...

1. Determine your purpose: Who is this boudoir session for? It is more than okay for these beautiful, natural photos to be for someone special or just for yourself! Nothing more empowering than some stunning film photographs of you in your loveliest, most natural state.

Boudoir sessions can help celebrate such a special time in someones life, plus its a great way to have fun, feel pampered and forget about wedding planning for a day! -Lindsey Zamora

2. When to schedule: Remember film photographs take longer to be developed than instantly downloadable digital photographs, so if you're dreaming of gifting your classy, emotive boudoir session to someone for a special occasion, be sure to factor in time.

In terms of wedding boudoir, I recommend setting up a boudoir session a few weeks prior to your wedding so you can truly relax and not worry about the wedding day hustle and bustle. -Lindsey Zamora

3. What to bring: Ah! One of the toughest questions! Fine Art style boudoir sessions are more about the emotion and unforgettable details than about being exposed. The prettiest boudoir sessions to grace the pages of Wedding Sparrow are usually the ones that lean more towards modest on the spectrum and with the bride wearing whatever she feels truly comfortable in! Shop some of our favorite pieces at the bottom of this post ...

It is always a good idea to bring a few wardrobe options. My go-to suggestions are lingerie in shades of ivory, black, plus a color- maybe one within your wedding palette to bring in cohesion. -Lindsey Zamora

4. Don't forget accessories: Pack a bag of your favorite items like shoes, hair accessories, and maybe your favorite blanket or throw and don't be shy to ask your photographer if any of your items would look good. Oh, and don't forget anything meaningful to you, too. Those items can always be incorporated in a special way...

Don’t forget a robe or veil as well! Not all brides are super comfortable feeling so exposed and it is nice to have some layering options while still giving off the delicate and feminine feel. -Lindsey Zamora

5. How to relax and feel comfortable: Everyone has their own way of prepping for slight nerve-wracking events, but here are some of our favorites: Create a spotify playlist of some soft, relaxed tunes, go for a brisk walk before to work out the jitters, get your hair and makeup done professionally, or when all else fails... pour a light mimosa!

Just know that film photographers, and all photographers for that matter, are professionals and trust us... they know the best ways to pose you and best ways to inspire you to have the best photoshoot with images that you'll cherish forever!
