Dreaming of getting married in Italy? Lake Como and Tuscany are the most iconic of settings for your dream Italian destination wedding. From glittering lakes and rolling hills lined with cypress trees to ancient abbeys and medieval castles - both regions are transportive and timeless.
So where do you start your location search? There are more stunning Italian wedding venues than we could possibly list so we asked destination wedding photographer and Fine Art Curation member Theresa Kelly to shares her top picks for the most beautiful wedding venues in Tuscany and Lake Como.
La Badia Di Orvieto
Though technically located in the region of Umbria, the venue will blow you away with its dramatic historic architecture. La Badia’s origins date all the way back to 1100, which qualifies it as one of the oldest hotels in Italy. Thus creating an atmosphere of rare and historic architecture combined with the beauty of the lush gardens and courtyards.
Why I love it
Without a doubt, having this ancient abbey turned four-star hotel has its advantages for all guests. You’ll be able to get ready in your respective suites, as well as host intimate gatherings for your guests such as a welcome party or a morning-after brunch.
Castello di Celsa
This 13th century castle is the closest thing I’ve seen to a true fairy tale wedding venue in all of Italy. Unimaginably dramatic, this property overlooks the rolling hills of the Tuscan countryside. While the grandeur of most castles can be imposing, Castelo di Celsa has a magical quality to it.
Why I love it
During autumn, the ivy covering the castle explodes into rich red. This quality makes Castello di Celsa a popular wedding venue for Chinese and Indian weddings. In Chinese culture, the color red on a wedding day is believed to bring about good luck, prosperity, and happiness. In India, the color red represents prosperity, opulence, love, passion, and purity.
Villa Del Balbianello
Villa del Balbianello is located on a steep wooded promontory, with the most dramatic and varied scenery of any other venue in Como. The villa’s loggia is the most breathtaking archway and an architectural marvel. Because it is set upon the highest point of the villa’s garden, it provides magnificent views in all directions.
Why I love it
Villa del Balbianello is the only venue on Lake Como that offers the option of a private, non-wedding day, photoshoot. If booking the Villa is out of reach, a couple can still plan for a stunning portrait session.
La Foce
The property of La Foce is nestled in southern Tuscany, and most famously known for its epic English-style box gardens. Views of cypresses that wind up a hill side that have become an emblem of Tuscany can be seen from numerous vantage points through the property - most notably, from a long and fragrant wisteria tunnel that winds visitors through the scenery. The old farmhouses have been restored making for a luxurious and private getaway for your closets guests.
Why I love it
La Foce, aesthetically speaking, is about as grandiose as is it gets. Midway between Florence and Rome, it is surrounded by renaissance and medieval sites that are listed among the World Heritage sites of UNESCO. History, beauty, luxury, the best Tuscan food and wine creates the pinnacle of your Italian destination wedding experience.
Villa Erba
Villa Erba is the most grand and luxurious wedding venue in Lake Como. Villa Erba’s interior and exterior total over 100,000 sqm, making it one of the biggest wedding villas located in Lake Como. While the villa’s sheer size is sure to impress, not to be overlooked is its grand architecture, palatial interiors, ornate ceilings, and gilded décor, creating an atmosphere befitting of royalty and aristocracy.
Why I love it
Entrance to the villa for the couple can be by water via boat, making for a truly grand entrance befitting of such a marvelous estate.
Villa Sola Cabiati
Once slept in by Napoleon Bonaparte, Villa Sola Cabiati is the picturesque vision of Italian elegance. The detailing inside the villa is opulent and endless, filled with exquisite tapestries, ancient paintings, and period antiques. Upon arrival, your wedding guests will marvel at the villa’s Baroque architecture, while delighting in the polished Italian-style gardens, and panoramic views of Lake Como.
Why I love it
Villa Sola Cabiati is within walking distance to the town of Tremezzo and makes an ideal location to explore the most famous gardens and villas on Lake Como.
