Abstract and Moody Bridal Inspiration
We always like to say that creativity is a muscle that needs exercised. Designing a spectacular wedding affair, complete with beautiful aesthetics and a personal touch to the specific couple, requires drawing inspiration from so many aspects of their relationship: age, experiences, preferences, likes, dislikes, travels, hometowns, etc. Sometimes taking the 'norm' out of something as common as a wedding can turn your world upside down enough to find the 'unique' and the 'different'. Today is an example of a remarkable editorial by Kiana Underwood and photographer Corbin Gurkin that flaunts silvery skin, moody backgrounds, and elements you wouldn't normally see in a wedding. Elements such as these truly can exercise your creative brain or creative perspective in order to design the loveliest wedding of your own...
From stylist and florist Kiana Underwood: "This story was born from my introduction to Georgia Young Couture’s beautiful and unusual wedding gowns. They seemed a bit futuristic to me and a little outside the norm of today’s typical “sweet” bride, while still maintaining a unique feminine quality. Once I had secured the gowns that I wanted from Georgia, the old 16th Street Station in Oakland became a perfect venue for the juxtaposition that I wanted between futuristic chic and rich and artistic grittiness. Having been familiar with some of Corbin Gurkin's work, I thought that she would be a perfect choice to capture both the majestic beauty of the station and the fine detail of the different floral scenes that I wanted to create.
From a floral perspective, the various scenes were meant to add color and life to the grey-toned backdrop of the abandoned station, and add to the surreal beauty of the interior landscape. In its entirety, I wanted to show a new and different way for brides to envision their wedding day, and specifically how a blend of old-world styling and muted, but progressive makeup and gowns could be the perfect match".
