Butterscotch and Taupe Tablescape Inspiration

We're nearing the middle of summer in most places (already?!) and see an abundance of colors in the red family: mauve, blush, dusty rose, and more. We're quite in love with such a color palette, but we also are completely enamored with the resurgence of a butterscotch tone that we've seen this year. In today's tablescape inspiration, we felt moved by the story and heart behind the design....

From Lynette Boyle: "When Sarah first shared her idea for The Film Photographer’s Workshop (teaching the detailed technical skills of film photography, including off-camera lighting with strobes), and asked if I would be a teacher, I was totally on board. We felt strongly that you need these technical skills and the understanding of how to apply them to your own workflow. The most common feedback we hear from other photographers is that they are afraid to jump into film, especially at a wedding. We also noticed it was usually because they were uncomfortable with their technical skills. Creating something beautiful for our attendees to photograph in low light was an important exercise to include in the shoots we would offer.

The Stone House at Temecula Creek Inn was a beautiful space to both learn in and photograph. Built in the late 1800’s and originally used as a mess hall for the local quarrymen, I wanted to reimagine who might dine in the same space. My initial thought was that it would be a dream studio for any artist, but for some reason, I kept coming back to the thought of a potter. I imagined her having her friends over for dinner, and setting the table with her latest firing of pottery; using servings bowls and tumblers to hold flowers instead of traditional vases. I wanted these scenes to feel like a minimalist’s version of a Dutch still life. It was important to bring in warmth with our color palette to balance the coolness of the hard stone. The simplicity of a farm table and benches seemed a natural fit and a nod to the original use of the space. Tones of mustard, coral, and brown in the flowers, pears, and linen were paired with rust tapers and matte pewter gold flatware. Our potter wears a vintage taupe cowl neck gown, her hair braided in a crown, making the final preparations to receive her guests."
