French destination wedding at a chateau near Burgundy
Sara and Jon originally planned to get married in Brooklyn but when they realised they were selecting French food and French wine, they thought, why not just get married in France? So that's exactly what they did with an intimate French destination wedding in a stunning chateau near Burgundy.
Bride Sara tells us more about it: "Our wedding was two years after the start of the pandemic so it was really the first time that many of our guests had travelled, so everyone was so excited to visit France and stay in the incredible Château de Varennes. We wanted a big vacation sleepover with our closest family and friends, and during one of the evenings together, we all get dressed up and have a wedding.
"Downton Abbey was the inspiration for the wedding aesthetic, with a focus on classical elegance without being costume-y or over-the-top. The venue did a lot of the work for us in terms of setting the scene - we just added our own touches with the help of our planner, Madame Wedding Design. It was important to have a vintage feel with modern touches. We had antique furniture on the lawn for cocktail hour which was a beautiful touch.
"We did not have groomsmen or bridesmaids so we relied on flowers to bring color. We wanted it to feel overgrown with lots of dark greenery on the tables and decorating the tent, like a secret garden. We chose neutral muted shades with blush, beige, ivory, light pink, and our florist Floraison totally delivered on our request for flowers that were out of the norm. The flowers had so much texture and dimension and a particularly favorite were the toffee roses. We had never seen them before and I have requested a dozen for each wedding anniversary!"
