How to achieve that Italian Wedding Style
With Tuscany being such a popular destination for weddings, we're always enamoured by the soft olive groves and golden light so when this gorgeous Italian editorial by Josie Derrick and stylist NKT Events landed on our desk, we wanted to hear all about it...
From Josie Derrick: "Authenticity to the story is what makes this editorial stand out amongst the rest. We wanted to tell the story of a young local couple eloping in a relative’s home where we could capture the simplistic elegance of the region coupled with our bride and groom's mix of traditional values while expressing their sensuality. We strove to stay authentic to the location, region and the couple so the design aesthetic of simplistic elegance resonates throughout the story from the design of the stationary to the al fresco style tablescape with local flowers, colored wine glasses and beeswax candles in stone holders."
"Because of the complex nature of two young lovers who want to stay true to themselves but also respect the wishes of their loved ones, we decided to showcase three different looks to capture their unique essence. The first look from Sibo Designs and Stefano Ricci is sensual and relaxed, focusing on the couples desire for authenticity with a natural look yet some elements of surprise such as her elaborate hair adornment. For the second look, we had our bride styled for a more conservative and traditional look with a high neckline and sleeves to show her modesty and virtue but also staying true to her sensual nature as the bodice is sheer with flower appliques strategically placed providing the essence of suggestiveness. The third look aims to highlight the ethereal and angelic glow of the “magic hour” in Tuscany; following the couple into the horizon of their new life. The gown is by Lisa Kyzer who will soon be launching her brand new line, Landon Roes. This look is refined and elegant as the gown boasts a deep v front as well as down the back, which is the perfect combination of sensuality and elegance. Our groom was styled in three different looks as well to mirror his own transformation with each scene alongside his bride. I was inspired to create this shoot after being away from Italy for several years. After a semester spent in Cortona studying, my heart was aching to go back. With the help of NKT Events, we were able to make this dream a reality. I knew the warm sunlight of Tuscany would be the perfect way to bring this shoot to life and after a slight change in plans we ended up shooting in the very same town I studied in years before."
