Michelle and Matt’s Cliffside Wedding in Maine

Everything about this oceanside, rocky cliffside Maine wedding is refreshing. From the relaxed atmosphere (read below what bride Michelle says about just how relaxed their day was - that is truly amazing), to the breathtaking scenery, to the meaning of the choice of wedding destination... everything. Michelle and Matt have this apparent easy love for each other, the type of love that just comes easy and we're able to sense this through the heartfelt and lovely images from WS faves, Michael and Carina Photography.

When curating images for this wedding day, we found it particularly important to include some of those natural moments that wholly embodied the ease of the entire day - a couple sitting on a retaining wall, the band playing, and lots of smiles and laughter. From bride Michelle: "Maine was the destination of our first trip as a couple - we were seventeen, had been dating for barely 3 months, and were full of wanderlust. There’s something special and undefinable about the Maine coast; we’ve always loved everything about it, from the rugged landscape to the seemingly endless offerings of fried foods and ice cream. It’s nostalgic and magical and timeless all at once, and we wanted to experience it together.

Since then, we’ve travelled to Maine every year that we’ve been together; seven years total, culminating in our wedding June 17th, 2017. We celebrated with a small ceremony at a whimsically romantic venue: propped on a cliff above the sea, The ViewPoint is an intimate inn with views of the Nubble Lighthouse. Drawing inspiration from the ocean, we wanted our wedding to feel airy, ethereal, and moody. I don’t think we’ve ever felt so relaxed with so many people watching us - we couldn’t have been less stressed if we tried.

In large part due to the calming effect of our planners Heidi Brisette and Garrison Rufa of SHE Luxe Weddings and Design, we felt there was little to do but enjoy the day with our guests. We snapped iPhone photos along with the best of them, and gorged ourselves on our favourite ever chocolate chip cookie dough pie from the Maine Diner - a staple in our diet since our first trip to Ogunquit. We wanted the mood of our day to be “Tom Petty’esque” - which feels especially timely now - and our band, the Pete Kilpatrick Band, really stood out as the cornerstone of our wedding. It’s impossible to reflect on our wedding day without hearing Pete singing Tom Petty’s Wildflowers as we walk down the aisle."
