Stephanie and Anton’s French Countryside Inspired Wedding

Apr 04, 2017 | Weddings

Surrounded by golden fields and bathed in warm sunlight, Stephanie and Anton were married in the Virginia countryside surrounded by the closest friends and family. Since they were introduced (by the bride's best friend), these two were inseparable, eventually getting engaged in the Chianti region in Italy ... talk about romantic. They envisioned their wedding to feel like a Marie Antionette painting in the French countryside and found that in The Market at Grelen! They celebrated their day with a stunning and refreshing color palette of neutrals, grey, and lavender, along with gorgeous design elements like the sentimental 'house' shaped arbor for their wedding ceremony (read more about this below from the bride... swoon!). We know you're going to find all the inspiration with these images by Gianny Campos Photography with styling by Amore Events....

From the bride: "My best friend introduced us after trying to get us to meet for years, from the second we saw each other it was love at first sight. At the end of the evening he asked for my number and called me two days later to ask me on our first date. The day after we had our second date and day after our third. We were completely inseparable! I even followed him to Spain two months later!

We wanted our wedding to feel like a scene from a Marie Antoinette painting in the french countryside. We had toyed with the idea of a destination wedding in France, but were heartbroken at the thought of not every single one of our friends and family being there, so instead we opted for the Virginia countryside - a place we fell in love with early on in our relationship.

We got engaged in Chianti, so a lot of our inspiration was drawn from driving through small Tuscan villages and the rows and rows of olive trees and vines. Anton proposed in the midst of an abandoned vineyard (the first day we were there!) so when we saw the Market at Grelen with its rows of plants and bushes and fruit trees, we were immediately brought back to that moment.

My family is Dutch nobility, deeply rooted in European tradition, so I wanted to take those traditions but apply them into our modern day life. My wedding dress was delicately made out of lace, reminiscent of traditional European wedding gowns, and I wore my grandmothers vintage pearl earrings. I also wore a cathedral veil to honor the women before me, who all wore long veils.

The color palette was very neutral, mainly light grays, blues, whites, and lavender. I carried a bouquet made of white flowers and lavender, and my bridesmaids carried small bouquets with rosemary and lavender. The men all choose their own tuxedos, in black, and Anton opted for a Ralph Lauren tuxedo.

We were married under an arbor designed by Anton himself, which represents a home. The idea of home is something we both have always cherished, and we wanted our first moment as a married couple to be in a “house”.

I cried for days after we got engaged, days before the wedding, and through our entire honeymoon!

Half of our wedding guests were flew all the way from Argentina, where Anton’s family is from. The second the dance floor opened they were all dancing to our 8-piece band and well into the night. As we said goodnight, we walked through all of our guests screaming well-wishes to us and hopped in Anton’s dad’s vintage Porsche!"

What a beautiful wedding based in the countryside, the photos really brought out the difference that outside venues can bring to a wedding, for the best day of your life, you couldn’t imagine anything more beautiful.
