The Lesser Seen Side of Southern France Weddings - Terracotta

Oct 02, 2019 | Inspiration

We're familiar with the rolling hills of Provence famed for its fields of lucious lavender and it's no wonder, thousands of couples each year chose this French destination as their wedding location. But we've never seen this side of the French Province - full of terracotta hues and an abundance of dried florals. Despite dried flowers bringing back memories of the 80s and my Mother's home displays (!), I'm seeing more and more beautiful dried flowers either interspersed with blooms as a juxtaposition or bouquets that are solely dried and I must admit I'm loving them. You?

From photographer Emily Wren: "On our trip to the south of France, we wanted to focus on a part of the region that is often overlooked. While the lavender fields get all the attention (not undeserved of course), we also found ourselves inspired by colors of the earth itself - the rich tones of the terra cotta clay found everywhere in the region. You’ll see terra cotta pots at every turn, and even the very walls of the buildings are made from the same material. Under the dusty July sun, we designed a tablescape embellished with terra cotta and other natural elements found in the landscape of southern France. Native dried grasses are abundant, and Faye&Renne; foraged some herself to accent our color scheme. Terre Ugo, a 3rd generation family-owned lavender farm in Provence, made for the perfect setting. Currently cared for by a mother and daughter, their space infuses a modern and artistic flair to the centuries-old farm. Not only do they maintain a seemingly endless expanse of lavender fields, but they have also curated a charming venue for weddings and events."
