Wendy and Dave’s Southern Plantation Wedding

Even after adversity, bride Wendy and groom Dave persevered to marry each other in a gorgeous plantation wedding in South Carolina. A week prior to their nuptials, a hurricane hit the area, resulting in damage to their planned beach house and lots and lots of cleanup at the plantation. With the help of family, friends, and incredible vendors like planner Loraine Cook - Invitation Only, their bright and beautiful southern wedding happened! We love the simplicity of it all, focusing everyone's attention on the sweet couple and the best day ever.

From Stefanie Kapra Photo: "Wendy and Dave had dreamt of a chic Southern destination wedding underneath majestic live oaks with pretty Spanish moss… When they came across Cassina Point Plantation on Edisto Island they immediately fell in love with the place and knew: this was it.

Wendy is an architect and besides wanting their wedding to be romantic and organic, she also wanted to incorporate her passion for architecture and design into her wedding decor. Together with planer Loraine from Invitation only, she created a beautiful and unique concept - combining organic elements (soft flowing table cloth, flowers, the plantation’s natural beauty, soft flowers and a simple yet gorgeous wedding arch…) with very modern and elegant golden decor pieces and shapes - which well represent Wendy’s profession as an architect. At first it might seems as if these two opposite styles don’t work together - but when looking at this wedding you will see that they absolutely do.

To tie things together, two of the bridesmaids wore golden sequins dresses, while the other two wore in a soft flowing blush dress. So the concept of romantic and soft versus modern and golden was carried thru the entire wedding - and it absolutely worked. The arch for the ceremony was made from wood and decorated with a simple flowing fabric in combination with greenery - blending effortlessly into the surroundings - yet the decor in the isles again contained a modern and very graphic element.

For the reception, the same holds true - while the tables were set in a very natural and romantic way, the escort cards and other decor were kept in modern shapes and fonts. It was so much fun to photograph these pretty and somewhat unusual combination of elements.

To round it all up, Wendy wore a pretty Hayley Paige dress and was glowing from excitement and love for her husband to be - Dave.

Sadly, a week before the wedding, a hurricane had hit South Carolina - especially Edisto Island - destroying the Edisto beach area (where the couple had rented a beach house for the getting ready), and the plantation grounds were partially set under water, trees were damaged and the lawn was covered in leaves, broken branches and more.

But despite this storm, Wendy and Dave kept their positive mindset and spirits up. They found a different place to stay in at Folley Beach (45 Minutes away) and everyone helped in working together to clean up the plantation’s property - so that this wedding could still happen. And it did :)

All the combined effort and hard work was finally rewarded - and Wendy and David wed on a beautiful sunny fall afternoon in Edisto - surrounded by their loved ones in the stunning setting of historic Cassina Point Plantation - and Wendy’s vision came alive beautifully."
