Winter wonderland wedding weekend in Lake Placid, NY
When planning a cosy Adirondack winter wedding weekend in Lake Placid for their closest family and friends, Natalia and Nick prioritized the guest experience. In fact, they eloped a month earlier in the Dolomites, so there was no ceremony. Instead, they hosted a fun-filled winter wonderland experience in Upstate New York, captured by Mary Dougherty, complete with icy hockey games and roaring fires. The snowy February weather did not disappoint.
Over to bride Natalia to tell us more about it: "Lake Placid has become a very special place for our relationship. I grew up here and always cherished the winters. There is something so magical about this small town, especially once the snow falls. Nick and I wanted to fill the weekend with activities that have brought us joy over the years, like skiing, skating and tobogganing, with the hopes that our guests leave with a shared experience and a new found love for this special winter town.
"My inspiration for the day was classic, rustic Adirondack style, with roaring fires, birch wood, white roses and cosy candlelight. We filled the room at The Whiteface Lodge with close to 3,000 floating candles to create a beautifully intimate atmosphere.
"For my bridal outfit, I knew I didn’t want to wear a traditional wedding dress. I wanted something whimsical, classic but also with a twist. I chose a dress from Paco Rabanne and I ordered it online without having seen it in person. Together, with my tailor, we worked to recreate the dress by changing the neckline, sleeves and bodice to make it more fitted and sleek.
"For shoes I wanted something with a pointed toe that would be comfortable for dancing so I went with a simple mule from Helmut Lang. I also wore a Toteme scarf sweater to keep me warm during pictures! For the after party, I wore a Prada silk mini dress and silver slingback pumps. I wanted to wear something the opposite of my wedding dress, that was flirty and fun and this little Prada number was just that!"
